Harrogate BNG Breakfast

Date: 8 October 2024, 8:30 - 11:00

Location: Swale and Esk Room, Pavilions of Harrogate, HG2 8NZ

This event will break down everything developers need to know about Biodiversity Net Gain in the Yorkshire area, including an in-depth look at Environment Banks’ Harrogate Habitat Banks.

In association with Environment Bank, Freeths LLP and Planning Potential

Biodiversity net gain policy came into effect this year and developers across England are still getting to grips with their new requirements. Join us for this breakfast event where we’ll be breaking down everything you need to know about BNG in your area.

We’ve carefully selected speakers with local expertise to offer guidance on the planning, ecology, and legal aspects of the new policy. They’ll give an overview of BNG, explain its requirements, and set out the most effective options for BNG delivery near you, including off-site Biodiversity Units from Habitat Banks located in the Harrogate area.

To ensure you have ample opportunity to ask all your burning questions about BNG, attendance will be limited so you’ll have the chance to speak directly with leading BNG experts who are ready to offer their support.

Speakers

Penny Simpson | Partner | Freeths LLP

Penny will provide an update on BNG policy, including clarifying what types of projects are legally subject to the regulation and where exemptions lie. She will also discuss the legal practicalities for securing and delivering BNG over 30 years and where long-term liabilities sit.

Claire Temple MRTPI | Director | Planning Potential

Claire will outline the steps developers must take to ensure they meet regulatory BNG planning requirements and explore options for effective delivery, including the mitigation hierarchy, the BNG metrics, and agreements with local authorities.

Sean Rooney | Account Director: Planning & Delivery | Environment Bank
Catherine Ashdown | Senior Ecologist | Environment Bank

Sean and Catherine will showcase Environment Bank’s nationwide network of Habitat Banks and using drone footage will focus on two sites near Harrogate. They will present recent case studies to show how developers have used the Biodiversity Units generated at these sites to meet their BNG planning requirements.
