The green agenda is fast becoming the property agenda. Gone is the time where one could dismiss sustainability – zero carbon has become the number one priority with regulators, investors and customers. That brings us to the big question: how does the property industry meet this demand without destroying its balance sheet?

- LAURA BOYLE, KINRISE | Projects include the redevelopment of grade-two listed Martins Bank, Liverpool and Sunlight House, Manchester.
- BERNADETTE BARRY, NORTHSTONE | Prioritises sustainability and energy efficiency, with smart tech heating systems to reduce energy usage. Northstone is the first homebuilder in the UK to become a gold member of The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside.
- LEE TREANOR, HBD | Developments include Island, a 100,000 sq ft office development, which is situated in a central Manchester conservation area and required close liaison with Historic England.
- ALISON HAIGH, BUTTRESS | Has over 20 years’ experience leading large multi-disciplinary teams to successfully deliver significant schemes for registered social landlords, private developers, and contractor clients, with a particular interest in retrofit, reducing embodied carbon and Passivhaus.
- DAVID SPARKS, EPR | Projects include the redevelopment of Alberton House, Manchester where targets will include Targeting Net Zero Carbon, BREEAM and NABERS 5.5 star credentials.
- JOHN SEARLE, SALFORD CITY COUNCIL | As part of Salford's climate action plan, carbon management savings have been achieved with methods such as solar panels on council buildings, retrofitting street lights and investing over £126 million in green space and environmental infrastructure projects like the Castle Irwell flood basin.
- CLLR GAVIN WHITE, MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL | The council's housing strategy includes targets for retrofitting at least a third of all social housing by 2032 in its bid to be a zero-carbon city by 2038.
- CLAIRE DIXON, PLUS DANE HOUSING | Invested £2m into a retrofitting project at Norwood Court and Gordon Court in Wirral with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
