Former Warrington Council offices earmarked for health hub
The three-storey Contact Warrington building on Horsemarket Street, which has been empty since the authority relocated to Time Square, is to be converted into a health centre for the elderly and families.
To be operated by Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the health and wellbeing hub aims to address health inequalities in Warrington, reduce emergency admissions to hospital, and could save the council up to £3m a year.
The revamped building will include five consultation rooms, a café, and a flexible space to be used for a variety of training sessions and support groups.
Services available at the hub will include immunisation, antenatal clinics, podiatry, and CBT, among others.
A consultation on the project held in July found that 86% of respondents were in favour of the creation of a town centre health hub, according to Warrington Council.
The project is one of seven in line to benefit from the £22m Warrington Council was awarded from the government’s £3bn Town Deal fund.
Other schemes earmarked for a share of the award include the creation of a new bus depot, and an advanced construction training centre.
Something useful in town centre great idea

Complete waste of money – there is already a health and well-being hub 500 meters away and another within half a mile. Town centre needs housing, independent shops, low cost or free parking, decent bus and taxi services and rethinking of total pedestrianisation which is creating a desolate town centre island surrounded by traffic queuing on the only road available to them.
