Editor – Yorkshire and North East

Location: North of England, ideally Yorkshire and North East

Salary: approx. £45,000 depending on experience

Contract: full-time permanent

This is your chance to lead the latest titles from the UK’s leading specialist business media publisher.

Shape editorial, chair events and represent the business as the ‘face of Place’ in the busy development markets of Yorkshire and North East.

You will be a talented and experienced all-rounder, just as comfortable generating news as you are curating conference content. As editor, you will join the senior editorial team at this independent business-to-business publisher, established in 2007.

You will be a tenacious news gatherer, sparkling event host, and experienced networker. Based in the North, ideally in Yorkshire or North East, and active across the patch, you will have access at the highest level to the most exciting development community in the country with a lively news agenda to match.

As we continue to grow, the time has now come to kick on to the next level with a full-time editor.

This high-profile position would suit an ambitious senior journalist, with experience of working for a national trade title or regional newspaper. Property knowledge is a distinct advantage but not essential.

The ideal candidate would combine the attributes of a supportive team player, energetic self-starter and natural leader.

Following the success of Place North West, we started publishing Place Yorkshire and Place North East in March 2023. Together, the three brands make up the Place North group.

Already, these new titles have become trusted sources of information for property professionals working in the Yorkshire and North East markets. Readership across Place North exceeds 300,000 unique visitors per month.

Our actively engaged loyal following has elevated Place North to a strong brand position in its market.

As well as publishing daily news, we also host well-respected conferences and social events for the community we serve, providing valuable market intelligence and the best business networking in the North.

Job description

Editorial

• Set the editorial agenda and make sure it is followed
• Act as main point of contact for Place North East and Place Yorkshire editorial
• Network and source news leads
• Be the ‘face of Place’ and represent the business in a professional and dynamic way
• Write original news stories, interviews, special reports
• Maintain a lively social media presence
• Commission longer reads and features
• Ensure timely publication of stories on website and newsletter
• Stay close to the audience: build and maintain contacts in the business community, monitor market trends and readers’ needs
• Track readership trends and adapt accordingly
• Maintain consistent style and tone
• Produce multimedia podcasts and video when required in conjunction with production team
• Help reinforce marketing and brand positioning for the publication

Events

• Deliver live editorial conferences with events team, including:
• Hold planning meetings with clients
• Define content themes and title
• Help inform event calendar for year ahead
• Advise on speakers to source for the best lineup
• Brief speakers about topics on the day
• Chair event on the day
• Coordinate coverage
• Attend overseas and UK events as required
• Attend networking events out of office hours

Management

• Work with fellow managers to maintain profitability
• Analyse products and media industry
• Collaborate with other departments
