Port of Garston set for £2.6m expansion

Associated British Ports will invest in a 20,000 sq ft warehouse and 16 external storage bays at the Liverpool port to meet the demands of a new client and support the UK supply chain.

The dock, which covers 65 acres, has undergone a series of recent improvements totalling £7m including a new crane and lock gates as well as additional storage sheds.

The latest project comes after ABP agreed a long-term contract with Derbyshire-based aggregates importer, Long Rake Spar.

Long Rake Spar, based in Bakewell, provides decorative aggregate, including gravel and slate, to the construction industry.

The new contract will see the firm import an anticipated 60,000 tonnes of material through the Port of Garston annually, bringing about the need for the proposed expansion.

Ashley Piper, ABP Commercial Manager, said: “Despite the current health epidemic, ABP continues to invest to keep the UK supply chain moving.

“Whilst doing so, we are also working to ensure the health and wellbeing of our employees, contractors, customers and other port users.”
