SPAR and fuel station planned for Lake District’s Hawkshead
The grocery brand’s wholesaler and distributer, James Hall and Company, is behind the proposals lodged for a site off Bragg Field in the village.
A 0.6-acre field next to a car park and the village centre, within the conservation area and UNESCO English Lake District World Heritage Site, is earmarked for the development.
The plans include a forecourt canopy, roof-mounted PV panels, underground fuel tanks, an ATM, EV charging bays, staff and customer car parking, lighting, signage, footpaths and circulatory roads.
An island in the forecourt will feature four petrol and diesel pump bays, according to the proposals submitted to Lake District National Park’s planning department.
At the back of the proposed SPAR, there would be preparation and storage areas, a main stock room and delivery bay, offices, toilets, and a staff welfare area.
The land was once the garden of the former Croft Hotel which has since been converted into holiday apartments, as well as a section of driveway which houses Hawkshead Medical Practice.
Revised access is proposed from the Bragg Field car park, while access from North Lonsdale Road would also be created as part of the proposed development.
