Manchester tables Newton Heath proposals
The city council has lodged an application for 69 affordable homes off Silk Street in the East Manchester suburb, to be built by Rowlinson Construction.
Comprising 21 homes and 48 apartments, the scheme was designed by MCAU Architects.
The 1.7-acre site is bordered to the north by the Rochdale Canal, Droylsden Road to the east, Great Newton Street to the south and Smallwood Street to the west.
Under Manchester City Council’s plans, there would be 36 one-bedroom apartments, and 12 two-bedroom apartments across three four-storey blocks to the north of the site.
In addition, the project features 17 three-bedroom houses and four properties with four bedrooms. Each house is to have a private garden.
All of the homes are earmarked as being available for social rent and would be managed by the council.
Paul Butler Associates is the planning consultant for the project and Trevor Bridge Associates is the landscape architect.
Elsewhere in Newton Heath, Your Housing Group is requesting permission to remediate a 47-acre site east of Ten Acres Lane for the construction of around 1,000 homes.
