Officers to recommend new Morecambe football stadium

Planning officers at Lancaster City Council are expected to recommend plans for a new stadium for Morecambe FC at a meeting of the planning authority to be held in September.

The 7,000-capacity stadium, due to be built on Westgate, south of the current Christie Park ground, will include eight restaurants, a 55-bed budget hotel and community sports facilities.

The latest in a series of revised plans was submitted in July, with enhanced landscape and lighting, and is currently still out for consultation.

Pending planning consent, the League 2 club hopes to begin the 2010/11 season in its new ground.

Bury-based Maze Planning Solutions, Manchester architects the Harris Partnership and Lancaster engineering consultant RG Parkins all advised the club.
