Footlocker to open 21,000 sq ft store in Liverpool ONE
The global footwear retail brand is to open one of the largest in its 2,500-strong estate, on South John Street. Music retailer HMV has stepped aside from the unit, moving into a nearby 13,000 sq ft space last week to accommodate the move.
Alison Clegg, director of asset management at Grosvenor Europe, said: “Securing Footlocker is a reflection of our strategy of providing visitors with a highly compelling and relevant offer that is unavailable elsewhere.
“Along with the new HMV, the new stores will provide on-trend, exciting offers that further strengthen Liverpool ONE’s great mix of brands.” The HMV shop includes an enlarged vinyl section, as the retailer looks to tap into a resurgent part of the music market.
Footlocker currently operates from Church Street in the city, and also has stores in Manchester, Chester and the Trafford Centre.
Clegg continued: “An increasing number of retailers including Footlocker, JD Sports, and Nespresso have launched new stores concepts in Liverpool ONE – an endorsement of their performance and confidence.”
JD and Superdry both opened major stores in the last quarter of 2017, while Seven Liverpool, a ‘concept brand’ owned by Footasylum, recently celebrating its first birthday on Paradise Street.
Grosvenor said that the deals follow a record year for Liverpool ONE, with year-on-year sales up 3% in 2017 and footfall exceeding 29m for the first time.
Cushman & Wakefield and Metis Real Estate Advisors acted for Liverpool ONE. Footlocker were represented by Brasier Freeth. HMV dealt directly through its in-house team.
Others are stating this will be the largest in the world, you say it will be one of, why is this?

It has been intimated that Selfridges Trafford Centre does better than Selfridges in Manchester City Centre. Despite Trafford not stocking some of the very high end merchandise like Laboutin and Chanel (as the brands allegedly dictate they must be in a city centre store). And the reason it out performs is due to the ‘Scouse Pound’ it is such as shame that there is not an equivalent to Selfridges in Liverpool 1. I appreciate that Selfridges cannot go there but something similar would do very well indeed!

Reminds me of the joke by Jimmy Carr, Liverpool, the only city where JD Sports has a bridal wear section.

Loads of people from Liverpool shop in the selfridges Trafford Centre. I reckon if they opened one in Liverpool it would do better than some of their other stores.

This will be one of the largest Footlockers in the universe.

Jamie, the high end brands don’t sell at the TC Selfridges, they’re very different stores, they do sell in Manchester across from Harvey Nichols, you are right though a lot of Liverpudlians do prefer to go to the Trafford Centre, people travel all the way from Leeds to the Trafford Centre.
