PLANNING | FCH secures four approvals in Liverpool

In a residential-led planning committee, Liverpool City Council has approved more than 750 new homes, including three major apartment schemes and a retirement housing development, all designed by architect Falconer Chester Hall.

Together, the four schemes are due to provide 768 new residential apartments for four different developers, including Citipads and Legacie, at sites across the city.

Advised by Zerum, Citipads plans to demolish existing buildings and build three blocks north of the city centre. This week’s approval updates an existing September 2016 consent for 313 flats, with changes to the internal layout made to increase the number of two-bed apartments in the scheme.

The proposed building at Brunswick Way is an H-shaped block with residential on the upper floors and 13,000 sq ft of retail in five ground floor units. The scheme is to be built on the car park of Brunswick Business Park, and will include improved public realm fronting on to the dock, as well as a residents’ gym and lounge. A five-storey office building was approved at the site in 2009, but was never progressed.

In the St Anne Street area, Legacie’s proposals, supported by Zerum as planner, are for the demolition of an existing industrial building, which is still half in use, to be replaced by three ground floor commercial units, 16 studio flats, 58 one-bedroom apartments and 53 two-bedroom apartments. The plans also include a number of roof terraces.

Aigburth Road

FCH’s smallest consent is for 76 apartments for the over-55s fronting both Aigburth Road and Alexandra Road in the south of the city. The plans include the conversion and extension of an existing villa at 34 Alexandra Drive into 20 apartments, and to demolish the former coach house and stables to build a mixed four-and-five storey building, which will include 56 apartments.
