Create eyes Blackpool Hilton extension 

The developer wants to build a four-storey, 74-bedroom extension to its Hampton by Hilton in the South Shore area of Blackpool due to high demand, just two years after it completed the original 130-bedroom scheme. 

Construction of the £12m hotel, carried out by Create Development’s contractor arm Create Construction, completed in May 2018 following the demolition of the former Palm Beach and Bourne Hotels on the New South Promenade site. 

As part of the development, the neighbouring Warwick Hotel was also demolished due to concerns over its stability. 

Create has now purchased the former Warwick Hotel site to build the 60,000 sq ft extension, taking the hotel up to more than 200 rooms. 

Tim Groom Architects, which designed the original scheme, is also designing the extension, plans for which are slated for approval when Blackpool Council’s planning committee meets next Tuesday. 

The application to extend the hotel has met with an objection from the nearby Waldorf Hotel, which, in a letter to the council, said: “While it is nice to have shiny new buildings in the town, it is essential that the council consider the consequences of allowing large chains to monopolise the accommodation sector in Blackpool.” 

A further letter of objection from Scott Benton, MP for Blackpool South, written on behalf of residents raised concerns over a lack of parking provision.
