Abersoch hotel approved at second hearing

A residential and leisure development on the site of the former White House Hotel in Abersoch, North Wales, has been approved by Gwynedd Council at the second time of asking.

The scheme by developer Broomco consists of a single landmark building made up of a 42-bed hotel, 18 apartments, a spa, restaurant and bar.

Manchester-based town planner Hourigan Connolly acted on behalf of Broomco.

The initial application was refused in June 2014 due to the council's view that insufficient section 106 contributions were being offered.

Daniel Connolly, founding director of Hourigan Connolly, said: "This decision is a hugely important for our client. The proposed development will bring about huge benefits for the local community and represents the culmination of three years' worth of hard work and negotiation, largely concerning matters of design and viability.

"Despite the refusal, we were very sure of our viability case and consequently, in December 2014, we appealed against the refusal of planning permission and re-submitted the planning application at the same time to give Gwynedd Council the opportunity to reconsider their previous decision. Thankfully, this led to Gwynedd Council resolving to grant planning permission, without the need for any s106 payments, within 13 weeks of the re-submission. "
