UCLan’s £200m campus vision
The University of Central Lancashire has published a development framework for spending £200m revamping its campus in the next 10 years. [GALLERY]
UCLan said it wants "to create a unified, sustainable and welcoming campus". The first phase, pending planning approval, will be a £30m engineering innovation centre starting on site in January 2016 and a new entrance replacing the Adelphi roundabout with a new public square "drawing together the university and the city."

Prof Gerry Kelleher, vice-chancellor, said: "Over the coming decade we will invest in the region of £200m to create a world-class campus environment which blends new facilities with the creation of public, green spaces to encourage people from all over the city to visit and enjoy the campus."
The institution spent £100m in the past five years on new buildings and facilities including the £12.5m JB Firth Building for forensic science, fire engineering and chemistry; £13m Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre; £15m Media Factory; and £5.3m Allen Building for the School of Medicine and Dentistry.
The next wave of development will include:
- At least seven new buildings: Engineering Innovation Centre, student enterprise/business zone, library extension/hub, offices, Brook street building, multi-storey car park, academic expansion
- New student services building will be linked to existing library via elevated glass walkway. This will replace the demolished Fylde building, which borders the Adelphi roundabout
- Landscaping and conversion of historic canal basin on Maudland Bank into a public walkway and cycle route
- Promote inward investment from commercial developers to regenerate the area around Corporation Street and Friargate
- Relocate car parking from centre to edge of the campus
- Reconfigure landscaping "to create a unified, green campus where internal and external events and exhibitions could be located"
A month-long public consultation exercise began today and closes on Friday 6 March. Work on planning applications will then follow with Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council.
GVA, Allies & Morrison, Mott MacDonald, FiD, and Plincke advise UCLan.
UCLan's Preston Campus covers 37 acres and 63 buildings with 1.5m sq ft of floor space.
