First look at Oldham leisure centre design
Artist's impressions of the proposed sports centre in Royton have been released by Oldham Council and its project team of contractor Willmott Dixon and designer GT Architects.
The new leisure facility will be located in Byron Street, opposite the site of the existing centre.
Baseline specifications for the new centre were approved in March 2012, but officers were then asked to further consider the potential mix of amenities and range of uses of the site to ensure better facilities that provide a lasting Olympic legacy.
The new facilities set to arrive at Royton will include a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool with spectator seating, 80-station fitness gym, two exercise/dance studios, 60-space car park, separate learner pool.
A planning application is due to be submitted for the latest design proposals at the end of February 2014.
The current Royton Sports Centre will close after the new £8m facility is completed, due to be autumn 2015.
The plans are due to go on show in Royton Sports Centre, Crompton Pool and Royton Library from the start of February. Information sessions will also take place with residents, sports clubs and user groups.
