THING OF THE WEEK
Hollywood calling… You may be seeing Bruntwood Work’s Bloc and Kinrise’s Martins Bank Building on the big screen soon. The two developers have signed deals with UK Locations for their properties to be featured in film and TV series. They’re already getting booked up too – Disney+ has booked time to film at one of Bruntwood’s properties and an unnamed BBC drama is set to film at Martins Bank Building in the near future.

A novel idea… Former Warrington councillor Chris Vobe has penned a two-book series inspired by the demolition of the iconic Garnett Cabinet Works’ water tower. The tower was a landmark in the town for more than 100 years, but was taken down in 2018 after being deemed unsafe. There were also plans to turn it into a residential development. Vobe’s “The Water Tower” series is about a fictional community in uproar over the proposed bulldozing of its water tower to make way for a luxury home development. Coincidence?
Co-op26… Co-op is coopting the COP26 name, rebranding six of its stores as Co-op26 in an effort to help spread the United Nations’ conference message about combatting climate change. Among the six shops to get the rebrand is the Manchester High Street flagship store. The rebrand goes beyond just a few signs. It also includes in-store radio takeovers to encourage customers to take practical steps to reduce carbon pollution. That’s a message we can all get behind.
Peaky Blinders… Escape Live, home to the official Peaky Blinders escape room, has opened its doors at Liverpool One. Taking up 8,800 sq ft, you can expect to get lost (and hopefully make your way out of) six different escape rooms, including one inspired by BBC’s Horrible Histories series.
‘Tis the season… The Christmas markets are back! Liverpool announced that its festive markets will return on 12 November with more than 40 stalls, twinkly lights and rides. Most importantly, the food offer will be clutch, with Yorkshire pudding wraps, dipped pretzels and German sausages. Plan on joining in the fun at St John’s Gardens, the north entrance of St George’s Hall and on William Brown Street.
Viva las tapas… La Tasca in Liverpool has become Tapas Revolution thanks to owner Spanish Restaurant Group. Patrons at the 130-seater restaurant can expect lots of sangria, cocktails, paella, chorizo a la sidra and some delectable Spanish-style meatballs. Delish!
