ISG wins £29m fire station rebuild contract

GMCA has appointed the contractor to deliver five replacement facilities between now and 2025.

ISG will rebuild ageing fire stations in Blackley, Whitefield, and Heywood, as well as King Street and Whitehill in Stockport.

The £29m project is expected to take place in two tranches.

The first tranche covers Blackley, Whitefield and King Street. The second tranche will include Heywood and Whitehill.

GMCA’s fire station refresh forms part of the combined authority’s 16-year estates strategy. As well as providing modern facilities, the project aims to reduce the buildings’ carbon footprints in line with the city region’s 2038 carbon-neutral target.

Planning permission will be required for the projects and applications are due in the coming months, according to the combined authority.

The Greater Manchester projects are the latest fire station wins for ISG.

The firm completed a new station in Chester in 2021 and was awarded a contract for four replacement facilities in the North East in 2013.

ISG was contacted for comment.
