Salford readies for MIPIM return
After three years away, the local authority will be joining thousands of property professionals and investors heading to the south of France for the international property conference.
Salford City Council will be taking the time at MIPIM in Cannes to raise the city’s profile, showcase its successes, and highlight its ambitions for the future.

The local authority will be putting a spotlight on five strategic growth locations: Salford city centre, Salford Quays and MediaCity, Eccles, Swinton, and Greater Manchester Western Gateway – which includes Port Salford.
These locations all play into the larger story of Salford’s regeneration and growth. The city is the fastest growing in population in the North West, increasing the number of residents by 15.4% since 2011.
Salford is the third largest local economy in Greater Manchester, according to the city council, which puts its overall GVA at £7.8bn – up from more than £500m in 2016.
During that same time period, more than 14,500 homes have been built in the city, alongside nearly 2.3m sq ft of commercial floorspace. Investment into the city has reached £2.6bn, according to the council. That figure breaks down to £1 of public investment for every £7.51 of private investment.
Who is going to MIPIM?
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett will be wearing two hats at MIPIM, representing both the council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, where he holds the role of Deputy Mayor.
Dennett told Place North West that MIPIM is a chance to meet investors, shout about the achievements in Salford and Greater Manchester, and learn from others on how they are approaching sustainability and inclusivity in development.
Securing investment in Salford and Greater Manchester is key to his goals of making a fairer, greener, city region.
“The best antidote to poverty and inequality is a decently paid, secure job,” Dennett said. “To deliver that, we need people to come work with us, create opportunities, and invest here.”
MIPIM is all about finding those people and getting them on board.
Dennett won’t be alone in attending MIPIM and spreading the good word about Salford. Joining him will be Salford City Council chief executive Tom Stannard, strategic director of place John Searle, and strategic lead for investment Sarah Ashurst.
