Rochdale Sixth Form College eyes expansion

A six-storey extension to the College Road facility is aimed at accommodating an additional 360 students, taking capacity up to almost 1,900.

Rochdale Sixth Form College has submitted plans to extend its existing site, which opened in 2011, by 20,000 sq ft.

The expansion is aimed at meeting “local growth in technology-based companies and small start-up businesses in the area”, according to documents submitted by Smith & Love Planning Consultants.

ABW Architects is leading on the design of the project, which features a cantilever to create a ground floor void to reduce flood risk. The site is located close to the River Roch in flood zone three.

The extension will feature 19 teaching spaces and a roof garden.
