BlackRock, PLP plan 450,000 sq ft Voltage Park extension

Trafford Council approved plans for the first phase of the 670,000 sq ft Carrington industrial project last year.

Demolition work to pave the way for phase one is underway. Meanwhile, BlackRock and PLP Property have announced their intentions for phase two.

The developers want to construct two units totalling 450,000 sq ft on 25 acres west of phase one, south of Common Lane.

To learn more about the project, search for reference number 111561/EIASCR/23 on Trafford Council’s planning portal.

Michael Sparkes Associates is the planning consultant and architect for the Voltage Park project, which spans 90 acres in total.

The first phase of Voltage Park, comprising five units ranging from 63,000 sq ft to 280,000 sq ft, is being delivered by BlackRock and PLP. Canmoor was attached to the project when plans were first lodged in 2019 but is no longer involved.

The development is part of the wider New Carrington site, allocated for redevelopment into employment space in the emerging Places for Everyone spatial plan.

The scheme would be constructed on a former gasworks south of the 212,000 sq ft first phase of Himor’s Carrington Gateway industrial complex.

There is an excellent opportunity in these developments to create a walking and cycling network away from the main Manchester Road (which is horrific for active travel). There’s an existing pedestrian subway beneath the railway (see google streetview near the embankment), this could easily connect this development to Moss View Road and Broadway.

Does Trafford Council have the ambition to push the developers to enable this link?

Voltage Park would be perfect for an Aldi or Lidl. They should be forced to have one as part of the planning.
