Regenda moves ahead with next phase in New Ferry
Almost eight years after a gas explosion destroyed part of the Wirral town, plans for the final part of the area’s regeneration have been lodged.
Regenda Group has submitted an application for 43 homes on the former Woodhead Car Park, situated opposite the site of the explosion.
Plans for 34 affordable apartments on Bebington Road across two sites impacted by the incident were approved last year.
The latest application seeks permission for 33 terraced houses around a central green space on the car park site and 10 apartments on the site of the vacant former Co-op store on New Chester Road.
100% of the homes would be available on affordable tenures.
Regenda Group was appointed in March 2022 to take the sites forward after a drawn-out procurement process.
John McCall Architects designed the proposals for Regenda.
The professional team on the project also includes Amenity Tree, Landor Planning Consultants, AJP, 1st Line Defence.
To find out more about the application, see APP/23/01878 on Wirral Council’s planning portal.
I’m sorry but those houses are ugly and depressing. Talk about increasing depression and anxiety. Surely they could’ve come up with a better, lighter design

8 years, nice brisk pace…good to see the developers and the council motoring along with this well located site close the shops, a train station, bus routes and the lovely Port Sunlight village.
