Hilton lined up for Cavern Quarter hotel
Greenwood Developments and JSM, which together bought the Cavern Walks shopping centre for £7m in 2022, have struck a franchise agreement that will see the creation of a 283-bedroom Motto by Hilton hotel.
Greenwood plans to repurpose the upper floors of the retail complex, while JSM will manage the ground floor retail space.
Craig Greenwood, managing director at Greenwood Developments, said: “The Motto brand is a natural fit for the Cavern Quarter, and with its exceptional location in the heart of the action, the hotel will perfectly complement the area’s vibrant tourism scene.”
“We are delighted to be to be working with Hilton to bring the Motto by Hilton brand to Liverpool, and are grateful to Liverpool City Council for their support as we progress with the development.”
Hilton is yet to open a Motto hotel in the UK but there are plans for several in the pipeline including in Manchester and Glasgow.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Hilton, said Motto is a “perfect fit” for Liverpool.
“Liverpool offers remarkable cultural attractions, bars and restaurants – all of which thrive thanks to growing numbers of international and domestic visitors to the city.
“The Motto by Hilton brand is the perfect fit for this lively area of the city, giving travellers a base from which to explore everything the city has to offer. We look forward to working with Greenwood Developments to bring this project to life.”
The hotel is expected to open next year.
Excellent news. People sometimes underestimate the visibility the international hotel brands bring to Liverpool. Will be great to see the upper floors of Cavern Walks brought back to life. It’s a quality building whose design has stood the test. Credit due to David Backhouse.

A good use for a building that lost it’s way, still waiting for some action on the promised hotel in the old George Henry Lee building in Basnett St. Meanwhile still hopes for the Moxy Hotel at Oldham Place where work continues and steel rising.
