Maryport £12m harbour regen plans in

A splash park, pop-up stage area, outdoor seating areas, marquee space, and market stall spaces figure in the plans lodged with Cumberland Council.

The finance for the planned harbour improvements is being drawn by the authority from the government’s Future High Streets Fund.

A purpose-built stage for live entertainment with ‘amphitheatre-style’ banking to seat audiences sits at the heart of the plans, while a public event space has been earmarked for a portion of grassland by the aquarium.

Pop-up music and family festivals are mooted for a flexible marquee space, while the proposed bar would be created from repurposed shipping containers, according to the plans.

The ageing Shiver Me Timbers park is in line to be replaced with a colourful adventure play area and a splash park.

Public consultation has opened on the design of the play area with results to be announced shortly.

Refurbishment work is also to begin next month at the Maryport Activity Centre, formerly known as The Wave, which is centred around creating an adventure soft play for smaller children, an upgraded Clip n’ Climb activity centre, and gym improvements.

The project team features Align Property Partners, Thomas Armstrong (Construction), Max Fordham, Westwood Landscape, Envirotech, and Roberts Environmental.
