Blackpool FC’s long-awaited East Stand edges closer

A planning application for the 4,000-capacity stand at Bloomfield Road is expected this summer, more than a year later than originally planned.

The submission of plans for a new East Stand would see the club take a step closer to finally saying goodbye to the temporary structure that has been there since the club was last in the Premier League 15 years ago.

An executive report published by Blackpool Council in February 2023 said it expected the club to lodge plans last spring. However, no application has been submitted.

Now, Blackpool Football Club is expected to formalise its proposals for a permanent East Stand in the coming months, according to a recent council report.

The East Stand project is the final part of the expansion of Bloomfield Road and part of the wider £6.5m Revoe Sports Village scheme, which features facilities for community use.

The council has acquired around three-quarters of the land required to deliver the project, according to the report, which provided an update on the various redevelopment projects around the town.

While plans for the stand have been delayed, the club has been busy elsewhere.

The Seasiders won consent for a long-awaited new training ground earlier this year – an 87-acre complex off Garstang Road between Blackpool and Poulton-le-Fylde.
