Wirral interim regen director resigns

Marc Cole is the fourth director of regeneration and place to step down in two years at Wirral Council.

Cole’s position was always temporary, having been appointed to an interim role in April after the departure of David Hughes. Hughes had held the post from early 2023, having taken over from interim director Sally Shah. Prior to Shah, the regeneration lead was Alan Evans, who left Wirral Council to join Homes England in August 2022.

It is understood that Cole resigned from his role, with Cllr Jo Bird referencing his departure as such at Wirral Council’s economy, regeneration, and housing committee meeting on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council emphasised that Cole’s departure would not slow the local authority’s regeneration efforts.

“Wirral’s multimillion pound regeneration programme is moving forward at significant pace, with a team of officers bringing a considerable amount of expertise to delivering numerous projects which are moving forward simultaneously across Birkenhead, New Ferry, Liscard, and Wirral Waters with more due to start soon,” they said.

“So at this incredibly exciting time we are sad to see our interim director of regeneration and place, Marc Cole, unable to continue with us and we wish him the best for his health and future endeavours,” they continued.

“In the meantime, work across the borough will not let up, the tempo and momentum of delivery of the projects stretching around the borough continues. Building on the strength and depth of knowledge and experience across the council’s regeneration department we look forward to delivering on our pro-growth regeneration agenda for the people of Wirral.”

Three C’s Consistency Confidence Clarity

What is happening?

By Damian

Seems to me that Wirral Council haven’t a clue how to go forward with regeneration of the area. All they seem to be able to do is commission cycle lanes and new council offices. No wonder they have had multiple ‘re generation officers’ in the past four years.

Sinking ship comes to mind as these empty offices must be costing some serious money

All the talk over the years of. developing New Brighton and Birkenhead.
Stop wasting money and talk time ,ask residents in both towns what is needed and getting on with it.
Time is money and why waste it. Get on with it.

Brownfield sites all over Birkenhead , surely an open goal for Wirral Council.

The incompetence of this crowd continues to amaze, no professional wants to stay in an organisation that flip flops every few days like a paper bag in the wind, no consistency apart from dogma and the cultish behaviour of those who shout loudest
