Wrexham AFC scores with Kop extension
Last month’s application to extend the temporary Kop stand’s capacity to 3,200 has been accepted via delegated powers.
Plans submitted to Wrexham County Council look to extend the height of the current stand by adding several rows of seating at the back and top.
This will create an additional 681 seats and improve access to WC facilities for the Racecourse Ground.
Additional seating will be added to the April 2024 application for a temporary stand, which replaced the original, which was demolished in 2023.
The successes of back-to-back promotions for the Welsh football club have increased ticket demand.
Currently, the stand, which sits on a 48,000 sq ft site at the Racecourse Ground, can hold around up to 2,300 fans.
Wrexham’s owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, have signalled their intention to develop a 5,500-seater stand as a longer-term Kop replacement.
Planning permission was granted for this permanent stand as well as a 500-capacity hospitality area, and a 600-capacity exhibition space in January 2023.
However, in June the club announced that the scheme, which was awarded more than £17m in public funding, would have to be ‘reassessed’, to improve supporter’s experience.
Original plans had expected the final stand to be completed by the end of August this year.
Wrexham AFC’s agent for the application was Savills. Designs were drawn up by AFL Architects.

With the owners money, why not go all hog and build a brand new 70,000 seater Stadium as l assume they be playing in PL and in CL within next 5 years or is that fanciful? Yes, fanciful.
