Approval nears for £10m Maghull High School

Sefton Council is due to discuss proposals by main contractor Wates to redevelop Maghull High School in Liverpool at a planning committee next week, with a recommendation to approve.

Wates was confirmed as main contractor for the scheme, which is backed by the Education & Skills Funding Agency, in December last year. The contract was awarded through the ESFA’s Priority Schools Building Programme 2.

The contractor will build a new two-storey facility, including a school hall, dining room, a performing arts suit, classrooms, and staff space alongside the school’s existing building. This will be demolished once the new build has been handed over in spring 2019.

Plans for the project, designed by Sheppard Robson with ELG as planner, were submitted in August last year.

Recommending the scheme for approval, Sefton Council’s planning officers said it would be “a welcome investment in modern facilities” for the school, and argued the design would be “a significant improvement on the dated existing school building.”

Sefton Council’s planning committee is due to meet on 6 February.
