Blackpool’s stalled Foxhall Village moves closer to completion

Great Places Housing Group’s plans to deliver the final 67 homes within the £50m masterplan are due to be approved by Blackpool Council next week.

Earlier this year, the housing association submitted an application for homes on a plot within 19-acre Foxhall Village that was left empty following the collapse of Hollinwood Homes in 2019.

Great Places is operating under an exclusivity agreement with Blackpool Council to deliver the 100% affordable scheme.

The housing company already owns 79 houses at Foxhall Village and is working with consultancy Cassidy + Ashton to deliver the next tranche.

The homes are to be delivered on a rectangular site bounded by Blundell Street, Tyldesley Road, Rigby Road and Princess Street.

Hollinwood won approval for the redevelopment of the same plot in 2019 but went bust before work could start. Great Places’ proposals differ from the earlier plans for the site, which were for 59 houses and 15 apartments.

Hollinwood Homes, part of the wider Marcus Worthington Group, appointed administrators in 2019 having completed fewer than half of the 400 homes it proposed at the £50m Foxhall Village.

Blackpool Council took control of Foxhall Village last year after reaching an agreement with administrator PwC.

The other part of the Foxhall Village site left undeveloped following Hollinwood’s collapse is earmarked to be turned into community sports pitches, as well as supporting Blackpool Football Club’s ambitions for a new east stand at Bloomfield Road.

The site, which was cleared in 2013, abuts a completed portion of Foxhall Village to the east.
