Bolton’s bus station progressing
Work to install the external glazing on the bus concourse at Bolton’s £48m road-rail interchange is almost complete.
The transport interchange is being delivered by main contractor Kier Group on behalf of TfGM in partnership with Bolton Council, and forms part of the regeneration of Newport Street. The scheme is funded by the Greater Manchester Transport Fund.
Energy-saving installations at the interchange will include rainwater recycling to flush the toilets, solar panels, air source heat pumps and low-energy LED lighting.
A new bridge will connect passengers to the train station next door.
Cllr Andrew Fender, chairman of Greater Manchester’s transport committee, said: “The installation of the glass panels provides a clear visual indication to anyone visiting or passing the site of the eye-catching, rapid and exciting progress that has been made on the project over the last few months.
“When complete, the bus concourse building will provide a modern, accessible and sheltered environment for passengers to obtain information and wait for their services.”
Cllr Cliff Morris, leader of Bolton Council, said: “The installation of the glazing is a sign that things are really starting to take shape. The interchange will provide an up-to-date transport facility for commuters and it is a key part of our town centre strategy.”
