Boom: Battle Bar to open at Printworks
The attraction, which offers activities including crazy golf and axe throwing, is to take over the 8,800 sq ft former Lazy Lizard unit within the Manchester leisure complex.
Landlord DTZ Investors has won approval from Manchester City Council to change the use of the Printworks unit, paving the way for Boom: Battle Bar’s arrival.
Nightclub Lazy Lizard opened in 2017 but lasted less than a year. The unit had previously been occupied by another night time venue, Entourage.
The existing bars within the property are to be retained for Boom: Battle Bar on both the ground floor and basement levels.
The venue will offer indoor activities including shuffleboard, digital darts, axe throwing, pool, marble racing, crazy golf and table tennis.
Boom: Battle Bar has venues in Cardiff, Eastbourne, Essex, Liverpool and Norwich and plans to open another 23 around the country, according to its website.
As well as the Manchester site, the company is to open branches in Blackpool, Leeds, Edinburgh and Bath, among others.
The letting follows the arrival of Treetop Adventure Golf in 2018 and is the latest part of DTZ’s plan to make the 385,000 sq ft leisure complex more appealing to a wider audience throughout the day.
Last February, DTZ won approval for a £9m refurbishment of the Printworks but work has not started.
“DTZ acquired Printworks in early 2017 and has subsequently sought to evolve its tenant mix in order that it provides a well-rounded leisure offer, which supports both daytime and evening leisure use,” according to a planning statement by consultant Nexus Planning.
A similar approach was taken by Manchester Arndale landlords M&G Real Estate and Intu last year. The joint venture let the former Birdcage nightclub unit to Roxy Ballroom, another competitive socialising venture.
