Breck starts work on 102 affordable Lancashire homes

Work began on the six-acre Preston project this week, and the houses are expected to be completed in summer 2026.

It was approved by Preston City Council last month after an agreement was made with Progress Housing Group to purchase on completion.

Off Sidgreaves Lane in Cottam, developer Breck is expected to deliver 102 one to four-bedroom affordable homes.

Mosaic Town Planning submitted the application on the developer’s behalf.

All homes will be two storeys, and the plans include 38 single bed flats, 35 two-bed homes, 25 three-beds and four four-bed homes.

There will be 71 properties with affordable rent, while 31 will be reserved for shared ownership.

The development has been partially funded through Homes England.

Breck will ensure that local labour is utilised.

Rebecca Field, head of development and sales at Progress Housing Group, said: “When complete, Sidgreaves Lane will be one of our largest new build developments to date and will provide much needed affordable housing in Cottam.

“Market values in this area are currently out of reach of many and this scheme will provide individuals, couples and families with a new home they simply would not have been able to afford,” she added.

“It is one of two sites we have partnered with Breck on in the North West and we’re looking forward to continuing this relationship over the coming years.”

The other is a smaller 13-home project in Upholland.

Andy Garnett, director at Breck, said: “The development of high-quality housing is a vital part of regenerating communities across the North West for the coming generations and the demand for all types of residential property is continuing to grow.”

Environmental consultant Ironside Farrar helped with the plans. Echo Acoustics advised on the noise assessment.
