Bury approves JD Sports office expansion

The retailer can get to work on the first phase of its Pilsworth Road campus overhaul after receiving planning permission to build a 10,500 sq ft creche at the council’s planning committee meeting on Tuesday.

Aew Architects designed the two-story building, which will provide childcare for between 90 and 120 JD Sports employees.

The first phase of the project will also deliver 106 car parking spaces, including five disabled spaces and 17 with EV charging capability.

JD currently operates out of three offices adjacent to the former A-Plant depot, demolished in 2019, where the new facilities will be constructed.

Outline planning permission has also been granted for the second phase of the project, which includes the four-storey JD Hub. The 77,000 sq ft facility will provide offices, meeting rooms, training facilities, and a presentation theatre.

The second phase of the scheme will also deliver health and wellbeing facilities, such as a multi-purpose all-weather pitch and an exercise trail. Changing facilities will be provided above the creche, as well as a flexible indoor events space.

Maze Planning Solutions is the planning consultant for the scheme, while CW Studio is the landscape architect.

James Fuller, global head of concept and design at JD Group, said: “Mirroring our position as a global sports fashion retailer, the space has been thoughtfully designed to drive enhanced collaboration and attract more top talent while cementing the future of our business here in Bury.”

Bury Council’s reference number for the application is 68530.
