Completion of 37,000 sq ft Wirral R&D hub set for 2025
Global pharmaceutical firm Bristol Myers Squibb is adding a drug development facility on the site of its 11-acre complex off Reeds Lane in Moreton.
Eric Wright Construction has been tasked with building the 37,000 sq ft research and development facility to provide laboratories and open-plan office space for up to 200 colleagues.
In an update on the progress of the facility designed by ADP Architecture, the contractor has confirmed it is on track for practical completion next May.
The building has reached its highest point and specialist ground source heat pump installation has also occurred.
This pump, designed and installed by specialist subcontractor Geroserv, is to provide energy-efficient heating and cooling of the building space, which will deliver 180kW of heat/cooling per hour.
BMS is targeting BREEAM ‘outstanding’ accreditation for the building.
With a nod to sustainability and colleague wellbeing the building has been designed with large panels of glazing to maximise natural light and extensive landscape areas are also a feature.
Inside the building will be flexible office seating with a range of collaboration zones while also increasing capacity and efficiency.
Steve Reid, pre-construction director at Eric Wright Construction, said: “The team is incredibly proud to be working with Bristol Myers Squibb on this project delivering a low energy, low carbon, and sustainable facility.
“It is great to have reached these milestones and be on track for practical completion in May 2025.”
As well as Eric Wright Construction and ADP Architecture, the project team also features Barton Wilmore now Stantec, AECOM, and Hurstwood Environmental Consulting.

Great to see expansion of a business that is providing skilled jobs on the Wirral and which will add to the growing number within the Liverpool City Region.
The site is making great progress and all the steel is up and moving space. Situated right next to Leasowe Merseyrail station , access is easy on public transport, meanwhile a brand new extended car park is now operational. The building itself looks impressive and stylish and will give a great impression from the train.

Great to see a regional contractor being appointed to deliver the scheme too – hope it goes well!
