F&B hat-trick for Congleton’s Viking Park
Clowes Developments will welcome KFC, Greggs, and Starbucks to the mixed-use scheme.
Construction has begun on the retail units located just off Barn Road, which cuts through the centre of the wider Viking Park site in Congleton.
A semi-detached, 3,200 sq ft unit will house both a KFC and a Greggs, while a detached 1,850 sq ft building will be constructed for Starbucks, a deal announced last year.
The Starbucks will also have a drive-thru, and plans include parking provision for up to 38 vehicles, with at least four EV charging points.
A further standalone 20,000 sq ft unit for a yet-to-be-named retailer will also be built.
Roe Developments is the main contractor for the project.
Marc Freeman, director at Clowes Developments, said: “It’s good to see that the roadside convenience offering is now under construction on site at Viking Park.
“We feel that Starbucks ‘drive-thru’, KFC, and Greggs will be a welcomed addition to the business park. We anticipate all units to be open for business by the summer of 2025.”
The wider scheme encompasses 55 acres and includes 175 houses currently under construction by Bloor Homes.
When finished, Viking Park could provide more than 36,000 sq ft of office facilities, almost 220,000 sq ft of industrial units, and an Aldi.
The project team includes AEW Architects, Savills, and JPL as the engineer.
Isn’t it time Congleton had more shops that actually sell products to buy other than food and drink ie clothes, homeware etc. Congleton is full of places to eat or get a haircut (if you are male) I think I counted at least 7 barbers, but no descant shops to buy clothes or anything else. The town is not a place to shop anymore, it’s just dying.

What about more doctors, dentists and schools to accommodate the amount of people moving into all these new houses that are being built EVERYWHERE in Congleton.

What about the much needed schools and clinical centre???. All these extra houses but, no sign of new education or health facilities. Surely this should have been a condition along side permission to erect all the houses and, if it was, why are the builders not complying?

Junk/ultra processed food is the future unfortunately. Also, such units could easily be located in a town centre rather than an out-of-centre location. Shame really

To the comment above, towns are changing up and down the country. In Congleton town centre there are still places to buy mens clothes, look harder. Town centres are also changing for a more social experience rather than shopping now. Congleton has a thriving town centre economy for food and drink which with more places due to open in the near future will bring more footfall and so shops will want a piece of that footfall so you may see more clothing and other boutique shops to follow, we already have plenty of small shops in town.

Still no sign of school, dentist, doctors for all these extra houses,

Not more food outlets. What about electrical outlets eg white goods etc, clothes. Homeware. I would help the town centre if they didn’t charge so much rent that’s what has killed Congleton town centre. We want decent shops not junk food and high caffeine coffee outlets.

Will be like barracks mill in macc a white elephant that killed the town centre

Shame they aren’t all drive thru. Make the larger unit multi story and get Primark in there! Better still entertainment, cinema/bowling 😊 looking forward to the development either way hope Starbucks is 24hr like wolstanton 🤞🏼

What about proper infrastructure? What about dentists, doctors, schools? As a resident of congleton all my life I couldn’t get my son into any of the schools in my catchment area and it costs me £30 a week and an hours journey to get him to a primary school at the other end of town. Yet people who moved here last year with their kids filled the local schools 🙄Dr’s appointments are hard to come by. The roads are jammed busy. We need DECENT shops, clothes and homeware. But no…we’ll get a KFC

Where I welcome a new KFC together with Starbucks and Greggs, the owners of Viking Way need to clear the pathways around the tyre retailer. The path is split between a cycle and a pedestrian zone but the undergrowth forces pedestrians to walk on the cycle way and could lead to a serious accident.

Why does congleton need more takeaways?
There is only 1 clothes shop in the town peacocks,
Why not invest in more clothes shops instead of fast food,
What about more GP surgeries,
The amount of new homes being built and the same amount of GPs, the service just cannot cope.
Congleton does not need anymore junk foods, or hairdresser,
It needs more retail shopping, not eating , not to mention the state of the roads and pot holes,
It is crazy,
