Consent for Cheshire salt producer
British Salt, advised by Fletcher Rae, has secured planning permission for a £7.2m boiler plant at its Middlewich site.
The project, which is to be delivered in British Salt’s 50th anniversary year, represents the largest single investment in the company since its inception, the business said.
Scheduled to become operational in March 2020, the plant will generate heat and electricity for the company’s 24-hour production process.
Richard Thompson of architect and masterplanner Fletcher Rae said: “British Salt is an important contributor to the Cheshire economy and the investment in the new boiler plant will see them future proofing its Middlewich operations.
“Having previously worked with parent company Tata Chemicals Europe on its Winnington site, we understand how important it is for this project to deliver the highest possible energy efficiency as well as meet stringent environmental standards.”
The business produces various grades of salt for various industrial uses including de-icing, chemicals and water treatment, textiles, animal feed and food ingredients.
