Construction starts on new Widnes Aldi
Work is due to begin on the Green Oaks Way store today, more than a year since planning permission was granted in September 2021.
The shop is expected to be completed by November 2023.
The Aldi foodstore will have a sales area of 14,300 sq ft.
This supermarket replaces a smaller Aldi store which previously occupied the site. Demolished in 2021, the former store had a smaller, 10,800 sq ft sales area.
JLL submitted the plans for the “more modern energy efficient building”. The old store was deemed to be tired with little room for growth, according to JLL.
A total of 85 parking spaces will be provided by the scheme, including six disabled, ten cycle, four EV, and three motorcycle.
CTM Construction is the main contractor for the project.
The Harris Partnership is the architect.
Bryn Richards, property director for Aldi said: “We are delighted to be starting work on our Widnes store and improving the shopping experience for our customers.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience, and we look forward to opening our doors in November this year.”
Just what Widnes needs!

I doubt if I shall use the store, I don’t drive so crossing the busy road for me and others like me, is a no no businesses do not cater for car less people. We use busses. 🐽
