Developers plot 495,000 sq ft Birkenhead shed

Peel L&P and Tungsten Properties have lodged a planning application with Wirral Council to build an industrial unit on a 22-acre site north of Ark Royal off Campbeltown Road.

The 495,000 sq ft Birkenhead scheme would be constructed on unoccupied land within the 140-acre former Cammell Laird shipyard. The area is allocated for redevelopment into employment uses under Wirral Council’s UDP.

Peel and Tungsten’s proposed development would comprise 465,000 sq ft of industrial space and around 30,000 sq ft of ancillary office accommodation.

The additional GVA attributable to the site once operational and fully occupied is estimated at £22.9m a year, according to consultant Pegasus Planning.

In addition, the scheme is predicted to provide 535 full-time jobs once complete.
