Morgan Sindall Construction was crowned the region’s best contractor for the second year running, while Salford University’s Energy House 2.0 picked up the best project gong at the annual awards bash.

A packed-out room at Manchester’s Hilton hotel last week saw contractors, clients and projects honoured at the sixteenth edition of the North West Regional Construction Awards.

The awards were hosted by the School of Science, Engineering and the Environment at the University of Salford and the Centre for Construction Innovation.

“We have been extremely impressed with the list of entrants this year, giving all our judges a challenge to decide the 2022 winners,” said Peter McDermott, chair of Constructing Excellence in the North West.

“We are delighted to have introduced two new awards this year; Modern Methods of Construction Award and Net Zero Award, both recognising those businesses that are driving the industry forward with development and sustainability.

“Our thanks to all who have applied for the awards this year,” he continued. “The awards continue to provide a space to share innovation and best practice as well as demonstrating the contribution of the sector to improved social value, and economic and environmental outcomes.”

Joe Sweeney, the dean of the School of Science, Engineering, and Environment at the Univeristy of Salford, said he was “delighted” to present the People Development Award in particular.

“As with most walks of life, people are our greatest asset, and we at the University of Salford carefully develop our curricula so as to have clear and tight alignment with the needs of the industry, and with
best practice,” Sweeney said.

“This allows us to continue to be a beacon for delivering social mobility across the region, country and globe. We understand the needs of the sector, and our strategic priorities are tailored to ensure effective and productive partnerships, which will benefit students, industry and society at large.”

In total, 20 awards were dished out for schemes and companies that demonstrated expertise in health and safety, carbon reduction and best practice over the last year.
