Green appointed Stockport’s permanent head of regen

Laura Green was seconded from the town’s mayoral development corporation to stand in for TfGM-bound Robert Goulsbra last year and has now been given the job on a permanent basis.

Green has been a development manager at Stockport MDC for the last five years.

In her new role, she will oversee a packed regeneration pipeline, that includes finishing off the town centre west masterplan, including the 1,200-home Stockport 8, the 280-acre town centre east, and developments across the borough from Marple to Hazel Grove.

She will report to assistant director of regeneration and development Jude Barker. The process of recruiting a successor to former director of regeneration and development Paul Richards – promoted to deputy chief executive last year – is ongoing.

“We are delighted to welcome Laura as our new head of regeneration and pleased she was successful in a very competitive recruitment process,” Richards said.

“Laura has been integral to the success of Stockport MDC over the last five years and her new role allows her to use her wealth of experience to deliver our ambitious regeneration agenda across the borough, creating a place where people can thrive.

He added: “With further key appointments, including managing director and chair of the MDC in the coming months, this is an exciting time as we build on our momentum to deliver lasting, positive change.”

Green began her career in the private sector at Stockport estate agent Fairhurst Buckley before a year stint at MCR Property Group.

In 2009 she moved into the public sector, spending more than a decade as a development surveyor at Manchester City Council.

From there, she joined the MDC, returning to Stockport where her career began.
