Homes planned for Chorlton Islamic school site
Cube Homes, part of Great Places Housing Group, wants to redevelop the Acres Road plot once the school relocates to Didsbury in September.
The developer is planning to demolish most of the former Manchester Islamic Grammar School for Girls in Chorlton and deliver 22 homes.
Cube’s scheme would provide 14 four-bedroom townhouses and six two-bedroom apartments. Carlton House would be retained and refurbished and converted into two homes.
As part of the site’s redevelopment, Acres Road will be widened to 5.5 meters, providing improved traffic flow.
A consultation on the proposals is now underway.
The opportunity to redevelop the Chorlton site comes as the Manchester Islamic Education Trust looks to consolidate its operations.
The trust acquired The Manchester College’s former Fielden Campus from LTE Group and plans to move students from two existing sites, in Chorlton and Withington, to West Didsbury.
Contractor Whittaker & Leach has been appointed to carry out the conversion of the college site into the trust’s new home.
Looks like quite a good scheme overall. Glad the Council stopped the developer’s original plans to knock down and replace Carlton House, don’t know what they were thinking!

Buyers will presume each home will be to passive house standards. I haven’t seen the energy specifications mentioned.
