ICG buys Morecambe’s Midland Hotel

The Inn Collection Group has made its third Lancashire acquisition, purchasing the 44-bedroom venue from Clitheroe-based charity, Lancaster Foundation.

Morecambe’s Midland Hotel, built in 1933 and restored by Urban Splash in 2008, joins The Lindum and The Carlton in Lytham St Annes in ICG’s Lancashire portfolio.

The grade two-listed Midland is also the group’s fourth acquisition since the start of October. Newcastle-based ICG has completed the purchase of The Bull in Beaumaris, the St Kilda Hotel in Llandudno, and The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere.

ICG now owns 35 sites across the north of England and North Wales.

Sean Donkin, managing director of The Inn Collection Group sees the Midland as a “protection project”.

“We are very keen to retain what is special about The Midland, looking after the fabric of the building and ensuring that it continues to occupy a prominent place not just in its physical location, but in peoples’ hearts for many years to come.”

Edinburgh-based commercial law firm Burness Paull provided legal advice on the transaction. Bradley Hall advised ICG on pre-acquisition diligence.

Lovely hotel in a great location. A lick of paint here and there and job’s a good ‘un.
