Interfloor plots Lancashire expansion
AEW is on board as architect as the flooring accessories supplier proposes a redevelopment that would take its Haslingden base over the 260,000 sq ft mark.
Plans have now been lodged with Rossendale Council. Also on the professional team for the project are planner Spawforths, consulting engineer Kaizen, GWB, SGi, Hann Tucker, Redmore Environmental, Red Acoustics, Curtins, and landscape architect Richard Eaves.
According to the planning application, the project will mean an increase in the overall building mass, from the current 248,168 sq ft, to 262,382 sq ft. Parking spaces on-site will be reduced from 99 to 59.
Full permission is sought for a project that will include some demolition work, and some remodelling and refurbishment of existing structures, along with extension work and the creation of ancillary office space for what is primarily an industrial development.

The 11.6-acre site is accessed off Broadway, and sits close to the A56 Haslingden bypass. It is used by Interloor for the production and storage of underlay.
Interlfoor wants to demolish its existing administration and welfare block and production area, and partly demolish its existing foam storage building. The other part of that building will be retained, along with the ‘mix and mould’ building and the ‘finished goods’ warehouse, which would be expanded.
Incoming will be a new production area, access area, and a new granulation area with an office and welfare block.
AEW’s design & access statement said that “internally, the scheme will increase efficiency and create a more suitable working environment” with safer routes of access front of mind, while the estate’s thermal efficiency will also be improved by the project.
In its planning statement, Spawforths describes Interfloor as Europe’s largest floor covering and accessories manufacturer and distributer, stating that “the site has a long-established manufacturing, warehousing and distribution use and the purpose of the proposal is to amalgamate all parts of the business to one location and update their facility to ensure it is more efficient”.
