Lancaster Luneside halls complete
The £25m project, delivered by developer Luneside East and built by Eric Wright Construction, comprises 431 student bedrooms and occupies a three-acre site on the River Lune in Lancaster.
Made up of four blocks ranging in height from three to six storeys, the development includes a cinema, meeting rooms, a gym, common rooms and commercial floorspace.
The site, earmarked for residential development by Lancaster City Council since 2002, is the former home of St George’s Works Mill, demolished in 2018 to make way for the scheme. The mill’s pump house was converted to house retail and communal space as part of the project.
Luneside East, a subsidiary of developer U+I, had plans for the project approved by Lancaster City Council in September 2016.
Just H was the architect for the project, which will be managed by CRM Students.
Ridge and Partners designed a centralised energy centre with a gas-fired combined heat and power plant that generates electricity for the whole scheme.
