‘Liverpool property legend’ dies aged 83
Geoff Mason co-founded Mason Owen in 1967 and went on to set up Mason Partners 30 years ago.
Retail agency Mason Partners, the company Mason went on to set up in 1993, confirmed the founder’s passing, describing him as a “property market pioneer”.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of our founding partner and property market pioneer Geoff Mason, aged 83,” a company statement said.
“Geoff was the UK’s first out-of-town retail property agent acting for retailers including MFI, Kwik Save and Iceland as well as developers such as Eddie Healey, Albert Gubay and the Richardsons.”
Mason was also the original letting agent on Meadowhall and Merry Hill Shopping centres.
Fellow property professionals took to social media to pay their respects to Mason.
Nick Swift, director at Lamb & Swift Commercial described Mason as a “big character and a stalwart in out-of-town retail agency and development”, while Sean Keyes, chief executive of Liverpool-based firm Sutcliffe said Mason was a “Liverpool property legend”.
The Mason Partners statement said: “Geoff loved his long and incredibly successful career in property where his enthusiasm, knowledge, determination and hard work shone brightly. Geoff was an inspiration to many after five decades in the property industry and will be dearly missed.”
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present. At a later date, arrangements will be made in Liverpool to celebrate Geoff’s life, details of which will be posted in due course.
In case anyone’s thinking tributes to the legend that was Geoff Mason are a tad light on here, get yourself over to LinkedIn, where they are fulsome and heartfelt. Truly one of the greats – and a proper gent, too.

Both Geoff and Barry were an inspiration to so many. The commercial property business received a wake-up call when Mason Owen arrived, much to the consternation of many of the establishment, but the success of the practice spoke volumes and they attracted the best in the business. RIP Geoff, you will be missed by many.
