Luxury Denbighshire hotel secures consent
Denbighshire’s planning committee has given the go-ahead to replace the derelict Bryn Morfydd Hotel in Llanrhaeadr with a 39-bed hotel and 89 holiday lodges.
The original hotel on the site shut in 2009 and has been subject to vandalism in subsequent years. Described as an “eyesore” by planners, this is due to be demolished to make way for the proposals by the owners of Silver Bay Luxury Holiday Villages on Anglesey.
These include the construction of a new 39-bed hotel, while existing lodges will be retain with an additional 33 lodges to be built, taking the total number to 89.
Following discussions with the council, the number of lodges has been reduced from more than 90 to its current level.
At a meeting on 20 June, Denbighshire’s planning committee approved the project, subject to a Section 106 agreement, although there were some objections from local residents.
Despite this, planners acknowledged “there will be impacts from a development on the scale proposed,” but added “there is limited support for a refusal recommendation based on the significance of these impacts.”
Planners also said the project would give “clear regeneration and employment benefits” for the local area.
The project is expected to be delivered in eight phases and is likely to finish by 2025, with work due to start by the end of the year. The professional team includes BR Architecture and Cadnant Planning.
