Lymm services expansion plans in

Moto Hospitality has lodged proposals with Warrington Council to reconfigure and extend its parking provision at the facility between the M6 and M56.

The main physical alteration to the site would see an extension of the services into a field adjacent to the North East of the site.

Demolition of an existing truck wash facility and reconfiguration of the HGV fuel filling station also feature in the plans for Lymm Poplar 2000 Services.

These changes will improve parking provision for cars and HGVs at the site in terms of the number, layout, and size of spaces, improving the operation and efficiency of the services for all users of the motorway network according to Moto.

If approved the plans will result in an increase in parking spaces for cars from 347 up to 623, HGV spaces up from 305 to 340, and spaces for coaches up from 15 to 24.

Currently, there are no dedicated spaces for caravans or motorcycles but this would change with the introduction of 30 and 18 spaces respectively for those vehicle types, along with 70 EV charging points and an increase in accessible spaces from five to 42.

Smith Jenkins, Robert Limbrick, The Landscape Partnership, Eddisons, Ecology by Design, and Pell Frischmann, DFL, and Wardell Armstrong feature on the project team.

The UK needs dozens of Truck Stops, like the Autohofs, in Germany. Truck drivers need dedicated places to park, eat, sleep, refuel, and so on. Where are they? Who, name names, is responsible and accountable? Probably the “free market” is to blame.

Interesting the transport assessment says that there’s likely no demand for cycle journeys to this location. But those staff have to get there somehow? If they’re from Lymm, a cycleway (or heaven forbid even a footway!) could be provided on Cliff Lane. If they’re from Grappenhall, down the A50. If they’re in Appleton, the horrible old “dumbell” junction should be upgraded.

But what will actually happen is nothing. More journeys will be added to local roads, fewer people will walk and cycle as a direct result, and nothing will improve.

If someone painted parking bays lines in the truck you could probably get another 40 trucks ,at the moment it’s ridiculous with the haphazard and selfish parking of some drivers
