Manchester aparthotel nears completion

Residence Inn by Marriott is to open a 155-suite venue on Laystall Street in May.

The aparthotel will be the brand’s fifth UK site and first in the North. The other four are located in London and Scotland.

The scheme, designed by Leach Rhodes Walker, is located just off Great Ancoats Street in Manchester and is being developed by Ciel Capital.

Ciel won approval in late 2018 to convert the building, previously a complex comprising 84 serviced apartments, into an enlarged short-stay scheme.

At the time, the development was to feature 172 rooms. This was later revised downwards to 155.

Due to open in a matter of weeks, Residence Inn Manchester Piccadilly is pet friendly and features a variety of amenities including a 24/7 fitness centre.

Every room comes with a fully functional kitchen, featuring microwaves, single ovens, two-ring hobs, refrigerators, and dishwashers.

Originally, Stow-Away, which shared directors with Ciel Capital, was lined up to operate the facility. Stow-Away was dissolved in 2020 according to Companies House.

The hotel is located in an area due to undergo a drastic change in the coming years.

Late last year, Dean Street Developments lodged a planning application for a Hilton Hotel on a plot directly next to the Residence Inn.

Nearby, Diecast, a 250,000 sq ft leisure venue, is due to open this summer, while Manchester City Council has recently updated strategic regeneration frameworks for the former Central Retail Park site and, Easy Village Central.

A bit more than a few weeks! There’s only half a fire escape at the rear of the building. Unless they are opening in stages
