Moda branches out into student homes, sets 10,000-unit target
Manchester is one of five cities where the developer has secured sites for its first 4,000 student beds.
Moda Living plans to branch into student accommodation development and deliver 10,000 PBSA units over the next five years.
As well as Manchester, the developer is also targeting Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham and Leeds.
“This is a big moment for Moda Living, as we take all our expertise and apply it to the vibrant world of PBSA,” said Oscar Brooks, co-founder of Moda Living.
“We have identified an opportunity to put a flag in the ground that evolves the market proposition with a focus on health, wellbeing, security and experience.”
Moda’s student homes will be wellbeing-focused and provide a mix of cluster flats with shared kitchen space, and private studios.
The schemes will include event spaces, wellness zones, fitness suites, private dining spaces, study rooms and lounges, together with roof terraces and green spaces.
The developer’s PBSA plans form part of Moda’s overall pipeline of 24,000 homes for renters across the UK, which it said are worth a combined £6.8bn.
Brooks added that Moda’s experience in the build-to-rent market will allow the company to “translate seamlessly” into the PBSA market.
“By applying our key brand foundations of outstanding service, unparalleled wellbeing, real-time ESG monitoring and a market-leading technology provision, we’re confident Moda can provide the best student living experience in the UK,” he said.
Johnny Caddick, Moda Living co-founder and chief executive, said the company’s move into student accommodation is a timely one.
“Like the mainstream housing market, the UK student accommodation market is crying out for quality new homes that will address the current shortage.
“We’re very confident that demand for sustainable, community-focused homes will ensure the success of this new addition to the Moda’s portfolio of rental platforms.”
Moda would not disclose the location of its sites.
This will probably get watered down. After all it is student accommodation
