MOSI prepares to open new gallery
The £9m extension to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester opens to the public on Saturday 29 January.
Called Revolution Manchester, the new gallery has been created in a former warehouse next to the current museum on Lower Byrom Street and will display objects relating to the city's industrial and technological achievements.
The project was paid for by the European Regional Development Fund, the North West Development Agency and Department of Culture Media and Sport. North West property players Martin Ainscough and the Oglesby family also made donations towards the cost of the extension.
The construction team consisted of architects Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams, Drivers Jonas Deloitte as project manager, Silcock Leedham mechanical and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors the Simon Fenton Partnership, and structural engineers Gifford.
MOSI has also reconfigured the existing museum space and created new lifts and stair cores and separated conference and banqueting space from the general public spaces.
