Bam on site at £15m Aintree hospital
The contractor has started phase one of a project to refurbish a 10-storey ward block on Lower Lane, having been appointed by the hospital’s NHS trust.
The project aims to improve the entrance area to Aintree University Hospital and extend the service life of the tower block, which houses the majority of the wards, by 20 years.
Bam expects to complete the first phase of the scheme next summer after which point work on the second phase, expected to last a further 12 months, will commence.
The hospital is located Fazakerley and opened in 1906. The ward building fronts Lower Lane.
Day Architectural is the designer for the project. Steven Hunt & Associates is the M&E contractor and Morley Design Associates is the structural engineer.
The designs for the project, unveiled in August 2018, are intended to tie in with plans for the adjacent £35m Urgent Care & Trauma Centre, which opened in September 2017.
