Hilton to grow on Blackpool hotel boom
The hotel and residential developer Create Developments has won approval to expand its Hampton by Hilton Hotel on South Promenade to more than 200 bedrooms, just two years after it completed the original 130-bedroom scheme, as Blackpool’s hotel pipeline continues to grow.
Blackpool Council granted approval for the 60,000 sq ft extension that will see Create Construction, the contractor arm of Create Developments, add a further 74 bedrooms.
As well as bedrooms, the extension, designed by Tim Groom Architects, will provide a larger kitchen and breakfast area, and flexible meeting spaces.
“Providing these extra facilities, the hotel will be able to give further support to the new Winter Gardens exhibition centre extension, as well as helping to boost the local economy,” according to Create.
The Winter Gardens development is a £26m project to create a conference and exhibition centre with space for 7,000 delegates.
Gill Mathison, director of Create Group, said: “The extension to our Blackpool Hampton by Hilton Hotel is a testament to the success of our team and the quality of the Hampton by Hilton brand.
“I am delighted that the improvements we are making to the hotel will entice more people to come and stay at the resort, which, in turn will provide much-needed support to other local businesses.”
Create Construction will start on site early next year and the build will take 12 months.
Blackpool Council wants to provide a new generation of hotels as part of its £1bn town centre regeneration strategy.
There are a number of pipeline hotel projects at the Lancashire seaside resort, including as part of Nikal and Media Invest Entertainment’s £300m [pin url=”https://explore.deetu.com/pnw/#blackpool-central”][/pin]Blackpool Central leisure project.
A four-star Holiday Inn at [pin url=”https://explore.deetu.com/pnw/#talbot-gateway”][/pin]Talbot Gateway, a 130-bedroom boutique hotel within the former post office building on Abingdon Street and an additional four-star offering at Winter Gardens, opposite the exhibition centre, are all in the works.
Additionally, Blackpool’s first five-star hotel, the £20m Sands Venue Resort Hotel, is due to complete next summer and the three-star Premier Inn on Talbot Square remains on course to complete by the end of 2020.
